Let’s Go For a Ride with Luxury
Our test drive this weekend as we have been teasing people about on our Instagram was again with Al Wajba Motors in Doha, but we moved to their 2nd brand which they hold among their group and it is the Bentley Motors.
We took out one of their dazzling icons, the Bentley Continental GT V8 S Concours Series. This will be the first time to have a full test drive for a luxurious brand yet sporty in a way.
We did test the previous generation ( as of the date we took the car in ), as Bentley Motors debuted the New-Gen of the 2018 Bentley Continental at IAA 2017 Auto Show this year.
Let’s talk more about it as we check out the main features in it.
Unlike most other prestige marques, the Bentley engineers worked on this model to appeal to young people and even business-like individuals while adding some variations in the models to fit the needs of everyone.
In the Continental GT series you can see the work on the aerodynamics and lines on the body to keep it a sport version while adding the concours trim series to add fine details on the exterior looks and into the interior finish.
ENGINE / TRANSMISSION
Bentley Continental GT V8 S doesn’t use the same V8 as in the Mulsanne. Rather it has an ultra-modern 4.0L twin-turbo 520HP V8 based on the one used in some top line Audi models, as these days Bentley and Audi are both part of the giant Volkswagen Group.
Torque is on tap from a mere 1700 rpm where it reaches a peak of a staggering 680Nm, meaning there’s almost a man waiting for you to press the pedal to give you power.
The GT uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. It has the sort of torque that demands it be engineered for all-wheel drive.
The all-wheel-drive system combines with huge brakes and the latest in electronic stability controls to ensure the best possible high-speed safety and security.
The engineers have done an excellent job at not only making the GT S looks good from the inside out but also at driving with pleasure as you feel the smooth driving along the road and when you need it power is there with a sweet low rumble that grabs attention from those standing next to it.
Bentley Continental GT V8 S has a top speed, where conditions permit, of 308km/h. But it’s not all about speed, this big Brit can dispatch huge distances with a minimum of fuss.
This is a large car, but doesn’t have much in the way of a back seat, four people can be carried but two plus a couple of kids works well enough.
The front seats are like tailored lounges and can be finished in a multitude of colors. We loved the red pleated units on our test machine part of the concours series.
not to mention the massage embedded in the front seats for ultimate luxury experience, yet of-course it won’t be a hard massage that will make you sleep rather than a smooth one to support your back for a long drive by giving it a nice gentle rub.
While cornering grip is really high, there’s no doubt that you can try to nudge up against the laws of physics can make it goes sideways but this beauty can go.
The engine sounds great, with a throaty rumble that will instantly bring a smile to all those with a love of high-performance engines of the V8 variety.
