The Mother of All Torque
Our hearts bumped up the past few days as we took over the 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 S from NBK Mercedes-Benz and we would like to give it the title of “The Mother f All Torque” as the 4.0L 500+ HP / V8 BiTurbo engine is out of this world for sure!
Let us take you through our experience as we tested the car throughout the roads of Doha in Qatar and learn about the top features in the vehicle.
You can’t miss out the bold lines and solid aerodynamic shape of the C63 starting from the front grille that gives the Mercedes-AMG its bold character and looking at the AMG High-Performance compound braking system which you can also upgrade to AMG Carbon-Ceramic if you are the type of person that hits the racing track every weekend!
From the back you can’t miss the AMG Sport Exhaust that not only gives music to the ear when downshifting or revving but also enhances the performance dramatically, whenever we started the engine in the morning the growl of the exhaust is just a jaw breaker to us. Never-less the carbon fiber that comes in the rear diffuser ( Optional – the model we drove had it ) gives it a bit of spice to make the exterior event better!
Stepping inside this beauty is just a mesmerizing, once you sit and buckle up you feel you are in control and you can tight your self up in the seat for a full throttle experience.
the center console came in the model we tested with Carbon Fiber option ( Our preference always is CF ) which is optional for those who wants to buy the vehicle but we do recommend it and we salute NBK for choosing this trim.
It comes also with IWC Ingenieur analog clock , a central analog clock is modeled after the classic IWC Ingenieur sports watch, it’s also a tribute the car’s thoroughbred racing heritage.
The AMG-exclusive gauge cluster features illuminated red indicators and unique AMG graphics within silver metallic bezels. Red accents are exclusive to the AMG S-Model. Controls on the steering wheel let the driver scroll through a variety of useful menus, including two exclusive AMG performance menus.
The steering also comes with AMG menu with RACETIMER as the HUD ( Heads UP Display ) lit up the front windshield and lets you view your speed in digital format, the currently engaged gear, as well as bar-graph readouts for turbo boost, engine oil temperature and transmission oil temperature. A second screen displays your chosen DYNAMIC SELECT settings. And a RACETIMER lets you record your lap times on dedicated racing circuits.
Performance and Driving Experience
The main reason you came for is to know how does this cars feels like when you hit the throttle. Well lets talk first about some features and technical specs for the C63 S.
Engine Specs :
- Engine : Handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine
- Power : 503 hp @ 5,500 rpm
- Acceleration : 0-60 kmph in 3.8 sec
- Transmission type : 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission
- Net torque : 516 lb-ft @ 1,750-4,500 rpm
Combining the above with these features below :
- AMG Ride Control Sport Suspension which adapts to the drivers’ driving style
- Exclusive front axle and wider track as the AMG-developed components and mounting to increase rigidity while decreasing weight.
- AMG Electronic LSD , The limited-slip differential features new electronic control. Its enhanced functionality can lock the differential with greater precision and speed
- “Hot inside V” turbocharger configuration as the twin turbos scrolls are placed inside the V of the engine that give the car a near-zero pressure loss or turbo lag and can spool up quickly
All the above handles those 503 HP and the massive 500+lb of torque in a way that is unexpected from a normal driver user but the 130 years old company knows for sure what they are engineering!
through out the roads of Doha we could not resist but to put the car into maximum test where we testing tight corners, 0-100 kmph acceleration, braking test.
While you can choose different modes of driving from Eco, Dynamic , Sport, Sport+ and Race mode ( which we love the most for sure ) all of these modes can be configured right to you and even make your own preference.
Adjust the seats to tuck you in, put in race mode, use the paddle shifts and go! The car does handle very well on corners and if you are not a good driver you would lose control over this massive power but don’t worry the safety in the vehicle is up to this power and the E-LSD will hold your horses down and control what you lose unless you plan to burn some rubber down the road.
This was our test drive for the Mercedes-AMG C63 S as we focused on performance and drive-ability there are many features for those who seek luxury too which we will speak about later on
